Getting Back to Me Part I: A Makeover with Preface Agency and Chicago Parent Magazine

I was the lucky recipient of the first of three Chicago Parent Mom Makeovers.

Take a look at my before picture.

To be honest, I don’t think I look like a total mess, but I do know I don’t feel confident.  Before having children, I felt I could hold my own.  What I mean is I felt I had a sense of style.  I felt comfortable and at times confident about my body. I had figured out how to apply makeup in a flattering way and was adventurous with my hair.  Becoming a mom changed that.  I started being very self conscious about my body.   Especially my newly acquired “badge of honor” my pooch.  I am 10 pounds heavier than I was pre baby which has left me with a closet full of clothes I have been avoiding.  I have little time for makeup.  My hair is almost always in a bun or ponytail.   Going outside started to feel like a chore.

That’s why I felt I needed a makeover.  I consider this the first of many stages of my process of ‘Getting Back to Me’.  Meeting Charlotte Betts of Preface Agency was so special.  A mom herself, she was reassuring, understanding, compassionate, and uplifting.  She encouraged me to love myself and my body.  She shared her own struggles with her body post baby (which surprised me because she looked AMAZING!).   I left that experience feeling stylish, contemporary, and most importantly ENERGIZED!  I went home motivated and finally went into my closet and did what I have been avoiding…trying on my pre baby clothes.  It was time to put away my first trimester jeans and try wearing something else for a change.

Thanks Charlotte and Chicago Parent for this amazing experience!  Would you like to see my transformation?  Check out my makeover at  Chicago Parent summer mom makeovers: June
